This course is designed to support tenants and tenant groups to develop a clear and practical understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging within a housing context.
Participants will gain an overview of the responsibilities of housing organisations under the Equality Act 2010, and explore how the legislation shapes the rights and responsibilities of both housing providers and tenants. The session helps tenants understand how discrimination and inequality can arise in access to services, decision making and day‑to‑day interactions.
The course also examines the impact of stereotyping and prejudice in relation to the nine protected characteristics and explores common barriers faced by tenants when accessing and receiving housing services. Through discussion and practical examples, participants are supported to identify inclusive approaches and good practice that can help reduce these barriers and improve tenant experience.
It is designed to be accessible and informative, with no prior knowledge of equality legislation required.
Sessions can be tailored to organisational context and delivered as a standalone workshop.
